The peaceful and tranquil small seafront village
of Pearly Beach is situated just 180km east of Cape Town.
From July to January every year, the Southern Right Whales come to our shores to mate and calve. Frequently, dolphins can also be seen playing in the waves.
Along the seafront and in the nearby mountains, you can admire a stunning variety of fynbos plants, for which the Cape Region of South Africa is world famous. In the Spring (August-October), the wild flowers put on a beautiful show.
Enjoy a walk along the unspoilt, seemingly endless, white sandy beaches and see the endangered African Black Oystercatcher, which nests here …
… and The Ark is only a stone's throw away from this beautiful beach.
The Ark is one of the oldest buildings in Pearly Beach, and sits on one of the highest points in the village. When it was first built, high on the dunes, it overlooked all the other houses and appeared to have come to a final resting place, just like the Ark supposedly did, on Mount Ararat. That is why it was given the name, The Ark.
Your room has easy access as it is on the ground floor of the Ark, but you are also very welcome to come up to the balcony for a stunning view of the sea and the endless white sands of the beach on one side, and spectacular mountain views on the other side.
During the evening, you can gaze at the dazzling array of stars and even witness the Milky Way, as there are no street lights in Pearly Beach.
We have tried to instil in The Ark a sense of rustic homeliness. It’s not a place for mod cons and high tech gizmos; it’s a place to chill out and relax. So, unwind, and let us take care of you.
The rules of The Ark are simple – there is just one - you tell us what time you want breakfast!
And we will do the rest. You just relax and enjoy the tranquillity of Pearly Beach!
We hope you enjoy your stay.
